Agency Merger: Finland
The Finnish Ministry of Employment and the Economy has proposed to merge the Finnish Competition Authority and the Finnish Consumer Agency into a joint agency to begin operations on 1 January 2013. The Government’s proposal on the new authority will be presented in September.
Update – Finland
Finland’s new Competition Act becomes effective on 1 November 2011. The main amendments relate to merger control, penalties, the procedure adhered to in the review of competition issues and damages. The FCA has published guidelines (in Finnish) on the new Act for merger control, leniency procedure, penalties, and case prioritization.
Merger Monday – Finland
The Finnish competition Authority recently made its second ever prohibition proposal to the Market Court to prohibit a merger in the asphalt mix market. The Market Court shall issue its decision based on the prohibition proposal within three months.
